| Suzanne A. Rogers
Suzanne was born on in northern Ontario town of Elliot Lake. Her parents moved to Canada from Budapest, Hungary.
She began her schooling in London, Ontario and completed high school at the Salzburg International Preparatory School in Austria (now called the American International School). She then returned to Canada to attend Western University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.
Since Suzanne became a Mother she has had a special place in her heart for charitable causes and community service that directly improves the lives of children; both here in Canada and those who are most in need around the world.
Suzanne, along with her husband Edward, is the Honourary Founding Chairperson of the OnexOne Foundation, an organization which assists in improving the lives of children. They acted as sponsors of the inaugural Fundraising Gala in 2005, and maintained this role ever since, at the Toronto, Calgary and San Francisco Gala’s. Since its inception OnexOne has raised over $10 million for children’s causes, both within Canada and globally. OnexOne expanded into the United States in 2008.
In 2006 Suzanne and Edward supported a donation to fund a Millennium Village in Africa. This initiative is the first Millennium Village donation from Canada. This program will help approximately 5,000 people living in the poorest conditions in a town in Rwanda, to escape from poverty, disease and hunger and to achieve sustained economic growth.
When Suzanne was married in May 2006, in lieu of wedding presents, she requested well-wishers to donate to Habitat for Humanity, an enterprise which builds homes for persons or families requiring special assistance in obtaining a house. Through the generosity of their guests they were able to build two homes from their donations.
Since that time Suzanne has become involved is a growing number of charitable initiatives, most of them with the goal of helping to improve the lives of children. She is a committee member of Scrubs, a charity that puts on an annual cocktail party raising about $300,000 annually for various causes at The Hospital for Sick Children.
In November 2008 Suzanne was co-Chair of a Chanel Gala & Fashion Show which raised over $1 million for Sick Kid’s “Healthy Kids International” program. Healthy Kids is a program to bring doctors over from developing countries to Canada and train them with advanced techniques and new medicines that they then take back their communities.
She was on the Committee for the 2009 Brazilian Ball, which successfully raised $2.7 million for The Sick Kids Foundation.
She was the Honorary Chair of the 2009 Pogo Ball, a charity that raises money for children with cancer and their families. The Gala raised over $400,000.
Suzanne is a committee member of The Toy Tea, which is an annual toy drive to raise awareness to fourteen women's shelters across Toronto. This event is held once a year 3 weeks before Christmas. They collect unwrapped toys and distribute them to the various shelters. The December, 2009 event will be hosted in Suzanne and Edward’s home.
In September, 2009 Suzanne announced the launch of “Suzanne Rogers Presents”, a series of fashion shows that will raise funds for children’s charities. The inaugural event will be in April 2010 with Oscar de la Renta who will attend the event personally.
Besides the many committees she currently sits on she is on the Board of Directors of The OnexOne Foundation.
Suzanne and her husband Edward have three children; Chloé, Edward and Jack. They live in Toronto.
Over the last three years, Suzanne has been and remains involved with the following charities:
One x One Gala: Along with her husband Edward, Suzanne is an honorary founder of this event. One x One is a non-profit foundation committed to supporting, preserving and improving the lives of children around the world. The original gala was held in Toronto in the fall of 2005 and has since expanded to the US with a similar event in San Francisco in 2008. Actor Matt Damon is the ambassador for these galas which are intended to raise funds for children’s charities and bring awareness of the plight of children throughout the globe. Suzanne has been on the organizing committee since the beginning and is the 2009 Gala Dinner Chair for the Toronto gala which will take place this fall. Since its inception OnexOne has raised eight million dollars for children’s charities
Pogo Gala: The Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario is the representative voice of the childhood cancer community. POGO is a collaboration of the five specialty pediatric oncology programs; The Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto), McMaster Children's Hospital (Hamilton), Children's Hospital of Western Ontario (London), Kingston General Hospital and Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (Ottawa). It works to ensure that all of Ontario's children have equal access to state-of-the-art diagnosis, treatment and required ancillary services. Suzanne was the Honorary Chair of the 2009 gala which raised almost $400,000.
Scrubs in the City:This is the third year Suzanne has worked on this event as a member of the organizing committee. About $250,000 is raised each year for the Sick Kids Foundation.
Mistletoe Ball & Silent Auction: Suzanne is helping the organizing committee for this annual event which will be held late in 2009. Funds are raised for the Herbie fund at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). The fund is devoted to ensuring that every child has access to medical care, regardless of financial position or geographical location.
Channel Fashion Show: Suzanne chaired this event in the fall of 2008. It marked Karl Lagerfeld’s first major Canadian runway show in ten years. This inaugural event held in Toronto raised $ 1.2 million was for the benefit of HealthyKids International, a new initiative by the Sick Kids Foundation.
Suzanne Rogers Presents: An annual fashion fundraiser which will be launched in April 2010. The inaugural fashion runway show will be Oscar de la Renta with the iconic designer in attendance.
