Sylvia Mantella was born in Toronto, Ontario. She is the first generation born Canadian and only child to parents who emigrated from The Czech Republic in the late 1960′s. Her passion and genuine desire to “give back” – whether in the community or on a global level – has been the catalyst to the success in her several ventures and many charitable causes both personally and corporately.
Sylvia has been involved with Mantella Corporation since 2008. However, she took her official position as Director of Brand Development in 2010. Her mission statement, “To maintain the stellar integrity and impeccable reputation of a family owned corporation established more than 60 years ago.” Through careful, strategic, and very selective branding decisions, Sylvia has been an important asset to Mantella Corporation. Mantella Corporation is a significant contributor to their community, local charities, and charities on a global level.
In 2012, Sylvia Mantella and Michelle Zerillo of Dolce Magazine decided to join forces to create a new event benefiting Doctors Without Borders entitled ‘Amore Without Borders’. The inaugural event took place on May 14th, 2014 at the Downtown Porsche Dealership.
Sylvia serves on the committee for the annual Scrubs in the City event, supporting SickKids Foundation. Now in its 13th year, the event has raised more than $2 million to date in support of some of the most critical needs at SickKids. On April 28, 2014, Mrs. Sylvia Mantella and Mrs Suzanne Rogers Co-Chaired the highly coveted ‘Suzanne Rogers Presents’ Zac Posen Fashion Red Carpet Gala, featuring Zac Posen’s first runway show in Canada. Held in Toronto at The Carlu, the event raised over $800,000 to benefit Boost Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention, and the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. Sylvia is honoured to have Co-Chaired past ‘Suzanne Rogers Presents’ galas, featuring Oscar de la Renta in 2010, and Marchesa in 2011.
Since 2011 Mantella Corporation has been a proud sponsor of the Ronald McDonald House through sponsorship of their annual “Holiday Chic” event, which benefits the Toronto Ronald McDonald House. Mantella Corporation is a continuing sponsor of various local and international charities for AIDS research. In September 2013, Mantella was proud to support the 25th annual Fashion Cares event, as well as the amfAR Inspiration Gala.
Mantella Corporation has been a proud leading sponsor of the annual Toronto Fashion Incubator New Labels Gala. This event is a crucial platform in supporting and elevating incredibly talented local fashion designers. Sylvia Mantella & Mantella Corporation wish to congratulate Miriam as the 2014 winner of The Toronto Fashion Incubator’s New Labels Fashion Design competition.
In February 2011, Sylvia co-chaired the 5th annual “Catwalk Cure for Cancer” along with Michelle Fidani, the founder, benefitting The Princess Margaret Hospital. This event raised nearly $200,000 for the hospital in one evening.
In August 2011 and July 2013, Sylvia was both humbled and delighted to be featured on the immensely popular online Fashion Blog “The Coveteur”, founded by the creative team of Erin Kleinberg, Steph Mark and Jake Rosenberg.
In September 2011, Sylvia was honored to be featured in a layout in the Fall issue of “Dolce Vita Magazine 2011,” a highly respected and successful Lifestyle National Magazine.
In November 2011, Mrs. Sylvia Mantella felt most privileged and deeply touched to be formally invited, and accepted, to sit on The Board of Directors with global fundraising organization ONEXONE. Sylvia and Robert’s genuine hope to improve the lives of children locally and around the world has driven them to sponsor and support The ONEXONE Global organization since 2008.
In October 2011, Mantella Corporation was very proud to be the Presenting Sponsor for The Fourth Annual “DRAWN TO DEVELOP” 2011 Toronto. Auctioned works of art raised funds for Street Kids International. To date, “Drawn to Develop” has raised over $200,000.
Robert and Sylvia lost their beautiful 38 year old sister-in-law to breast cancer in 2002. Shortly thereafter, the Mantella Family created a private fund, for The Judy Mantella Foundation, with all proceeds supporting Sunnybrook Hospital.
As a very active and contributing member of her children’s school community since 2005, Sylvia Mantella sits on several committees, including the Country Day School’s annual auction fundraiser. With Sylvia as the auction event Chair in 2009 and 2010, the auction raised nearly $400,000 with all proceeds being contributed directly to the school. Sylvia’s commitment as Co-Chair for 2011 and 2012 raised over $400,000. All proceeds go directly to The Country Day School’s development to provide extensive educational advancement and continued expansion of the school, benefiting the lives of the students.
Since 2007, Sylvia, Robert, and their children have been supporters of many life-saving animal organizations committed to the humane treatment of animals such as PETA, The World Wildlife Federation, The Toronto Humane Society, Toronto Wildlife Centre and World Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
