Swap a Want for Someone Else’s Needs: Micro-donations go Mobile
TORONTO—May 1, 2014— In launch of the inaugural Million Meals Movements, ONEXONE today launched a 30-day fundraising campaign in partnership with I Can Go Without.
In an effort to address the shocking reality of food insecurity in North America and around the world, ONEXONE is calling upon Canadians to join the plight to end hunger at the inaugural Million Meals Movement on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts featuring Simple Plan, MAGIC!, Alyssa Reid & Kardinal Offishall.
The Movement, aimed at uniting Canadians to fight hunger, will kick start the community-based initiative and journey of eventually packing one million meals for children in need across North America. Currently, the cost of food where First Nation’s schools are located is astronomical, but ONEXONE has managed to set up a program that can deliver a healthy breakfast for only $1 a day.
To build on donations, ONEXONE has partnered with I Can Go Without, an app that simply allows people to swap a want, for someone else’s need.
“It’s never been simpler to support a fundraiser,” says Paul Rowland, CEO of I Can Go Without. “You can take part by deciding to go without everyday items like a coffee or skipping that dessert at lunch, and instead provide a child with a much needed healthy breakfast to start their day and prepare them for school.”
The impact of these small acts is incredible since it only takes $1 to give a child the proper start to their day. Something as simple as going without or brewing your own coffee, which usually costs around $3, can support a child for three days.
“This event and fundraiser will help bring awareness of the issue, and show people that you don’t have to be a millionaire to have a large impact on the lives of others, we can all do our bit on a micro level,” says Joey Adler, Founder and Chair of ONEXONE. “The idea of not having a meal to eat is a very serious reality for many Canadian families. There is no reason why hunger should exist, and ONEXONE is inviting everyone to take a stand and help make a difference by joining the Movement to end hunger.”
ONEXONE and I Can Go Without invite Canadians to take the 30 challenge, connect with communities of people who care and watch their micro-donations today create the positive movements of tomorrow.
To take part you can download the iPhone app and the fundraiser will appear on the home screen, people can then join and invite friends via the app or visit icgw.io/millionmeals for more information.
